How to save democracy?
Citizens shape society and nation at large.
Spread peace, love, unity and non-violence.
Stand up for human rights, justice and fairness towards all.
Never fear to peacefully dissent on issues affecting you and those around you for injustice anywhere or to anyone would sooner than later affect you.
Bridge the gap between rich and poor.
Never compromise on your individual freedom, ethics and integrity. These principles would pave way for elimination of corruption and socio-economic disparity in society.
Voice your concerns peacefully on stagnant economic situation, media bias favoring authority, police brutality against unarmed students and civilians in community.
Message to the law enforcement in India – As public funded agency, the law enforcement acting on political authorities instructions and order to stir communal tensions, trigger violence against students in college campus witnessed in the recent police aggression against students in college campus of Jamia Milia Islamia University in New Delhi is deeply regrettable.
The undemocratic means as well as tactics per political instigation is reprehensible. These students in the college campus viz. Jamia Milia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and other parts of the country participating in non-violent peaceful march intercepted with police brute force is abuse of power in a democracy.
These college students and others injured with some having been assaulted in police custody and one student permanently losing eye sight in the course of heavy handed approach by police and political party managed mob intrusion undermines democracy together with civil rights infringement.
Simultaneously, students and all those expressing their solidarity in the ongoing contentious national issues – Citizenship Amendment Act and National Registry of Citizens must exercise caution and vigilance to prevent violence and any damage to public and private property at all times bearing in mind the general public or the common citizens are the ones footing the costs of public facilities and accordingly experience inconvenience upon destruction or vandalism of transportation and public premise.
Police force need to realize the excess use of weaponry at their disposal against unarmed civilians and alleged harassment as well as sexual assault of female students in college campus violates the law enforcement disciplinary code besides the loss of trust and respect for law enforcement among citizens expected to be protected not harmed by police and those deployed to maintain law and order.
The government having created the unnecessary problem in the passage of unconstitutional citizenship act repealing the measure would demonstrate the administration’s acknowledgment and recognition of democratic system.
The peaceful resolution aimed at inclusive not exclusive legislations and policies is the bedrock of any stable functional democracy.
Thank you.
