India – September 17th #National Unemployment Day
Padmini Arhant
When frustrated Indian youth in formal and informal sectors seeking government response to soaring unemployment and unprecedented joblessness are beaten and dispersed deploying brute force with some apprehended and falsely charged as anarchist tainting their credentials in the already gloomy economy and social environment,
That system could not be democratic in any shape or form.
Indian politics in unison both ruling and so-called opposition mostly comprising upper echelons i.e. the runaways, rich, famous and political dynasty members joining politics predominantly for self-interests such as protecting their hoarded black money in offshore safe havens and various channels, tax evasions on their multi-million income mainly composing illegal transactions mostly in black and negligible sum in white, covering up nefarious activities with direct links to criminal underworld financing their political campaigns, film industry and business ventures are in control of the political system in the so-called world’s largest democracy.
Needless to say these members in politics – the large swath have criminal and corrupt background transformed into legacy upon assuming public office.
With no transparency and accountability completely out of question among them in the mass political collusion having each other’s back alternating to power, the corruption and criminality permeating all around is the norm.
The government appointed judiciary and agencies such as intelligence bureau Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income tax departments are nuclear options to maintain status quo.
India since independence over seven decades has experienced power sharing between political dynasties and fundamentalists up until now.
The political dynasties amassing wealth lasting several generations through corruption scandals usurping to power as entitlement while leaving overwhelming population on generational poverty and,
The fundamentalists on the other hand also intensely corrupt and even worse espousing radical ideology entrenched in divide and rule strategy witnessed now under hardline anti-democratic administration headed by PM Narendra Modi and Home minister Amit Shah with little or no tolerance to anything democratic is directly responsible for India’s precarious economic, health and national security crises.
The politics controlled and directed media, press, news organizations, social media and entertainment industry in particular are instrumental in propaganda and dissemination of false fabricated information and fake news as rebuttals on real issues concerning economy and nation at large.
India’s ordinary citizens are far more qualified and better equipped with skills and knowledge than those in governance and bureaucracy.
Unfortunately, those in politics having found the way in political system based on crafty corrupt maneuvering, some asserting wealthy industrialist profile expending illegal money in political campaigns and others using celebrity status deprive the worthy and capable ordinary citizens representation in the exclusive political club.
Not to mention cronyism ad nauseam and nepotism overriding merit and competence in the highly competitive job market and government key positions reserved on political bias and quid pro quo recruitment.
Indian youth across the spectrum from middle class to lower income and skilled labor force are let down repeatedly due to feudal political class favoring wealthy industrialists, famous film and sports personalities and religious fanatics misusing religion, all of them aimed at political and personal agenda.
The present and in the past political members have systematically abused power leaning to declared and undeclared emergency rule undermining democracy and right to peaceful dissent on burgeoning issues threatening basic survival.
Indian youth as majority in the 1.3 billion people have reached a crescendo on joblessness despite higher educational qualifications and training in discipline of their choice with government and politics in entirety miserably failing them in providing economic opportunity and financial means to support them and their families earlier and now in the pandemic situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejecting youth requests to address the ailing economy and joblessness is a serious dereliction of duty and instead floating entertainment industry gossips and scathing scandals to deflect public attention speaks volume on the administration colossal failure to deal with grave challenges facing the nation in every frontier.
Indian youth and ordinary citizens struggling to make ends meet deserve better leadership and governance in a country with remarkable talent and intelligence prevented from fair and equal representation in political, economic and social domains.
In fact, the average citizens and those feeling the brunt of the agony in every dimension are largely to blame for facilitating undeserving and unworthy members rise to fame, fortune and power in society.
It’s time for India to replace redundancy with efficiency delivered in actions not limited to lip service – common political trait to win election and sustain power in politics.
Thank you.
