The so-called world’s largest democracy poll season has begun with the so-called fourth column viz. media and press being anything but the voice of democracy.
The media role in Indian politics is that of judge, jury and executioner conducting media trial assuming the status even higher than the Supreme Court in the land.
Holding national election leaving the Election Commission of India nothing more than a bugler and,
Orchestrating military warfare with poorly concocted graphics nowhere near technology oriented CGI combined with heavily dramatized narratives astounding military top brass in touting the political leadership’s alleged unparalleled military feat.
The prime minister Narendra Modi having ducked press conference, national debate and public interviews except the cherry picked one laden with restrictions in the beginning of the year pretty much stacked all eggs in the media basket to return to power in the hope of none cracking and yoking the face prior to the end of election carnival.
On the other hand, the opponent Rahul Gandhi of Congress party riding on political dynasty pony with a feather on his cap bent on claiming entitlement as heir to the throne.
Amid such peculiarities, the political parties owned and represented media compete with one another in not outwitting rather overarching sycophancy to boost their respective political camps as well as own ratings in the otherwise lack luster performance marred with scandals, corruption and arguably brow raising failures in many fronts and frontier.
This is a preview with more to come on this topic shortly.
Thank you.
