India – Election Commission of India in Dereliction of Duty
Padmini Arhant
Indian democracy subverted more than ever under Narendra Modi regime deploying undemocratic underhanded tactics and experience from Gujarat days as then Chief Minister of that state.
Narendra Modi’s legacy marred with instigating communal violence resulting in thousands of innocent civilian deaths followed by murder of then CM Narendra Modi cabinet Gujarat Home Minister and BJP member Haren Pandya in 2003. The heinous crime implicates both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for complicity.
The numerous corrupt nefarious dealings evident in electoral bonds protecting donor identity linked to corporate as well as diverse interests with potential threats to India’s economic and national security highlighted in neighbor Pakistan authority cheerleading for Narendra Modi speaks volume on the incumbent leadership.
Notwithstanding the outgoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his BJP party chieftain and champion in criminality and communal divide Amit Shah air freighting black money in choppers to fund their election campaign somehow not on election commission’s radar.
Underneath the facade, Narendra Modi’s government crackdown on black money and rival political factions hoardings is a far cry.
Not to mention demonetization debacle implemented under false pretext of confiscating black money proved counterproductive and a disaster for overwhelming majority of ordinary citizens in India.
The political career rife with unapologetic crimes and offenses constituting treason typically disqualifies Narendra Modi candidacy from competing in any election let alone re-election as Prime Minister of a democratic system in the brink of collapse.
Election Commission of India (ECI) represented by Narendra Modi’s appointees fearing the caretaker PM Narendra Modi’s response to ECI actions against Narendra Modi’s repeat and consistent violations of Model Code of Conduct applicable on all contenders and political parties barring exceptions using political status is reprehensible.
Since the onset of election campaign Narendra Modi using defense force to garner votes in public speech, never shying away from provocative communal references citing religion, caste and creed is the norm that by far exceeds the parameters of Model Code of Conduct effective on all contestants especially the former head of the state Narendra Modi expected to respect and comply with at all times exemplifying ethical efficacy.
Election Commission of India choosing to remain oblivious to caretaker government representative Narendra Modi’s unruly disposition and political campaign rhetoric defying common laws demonstrates election commission’s systemic failure and dereliction of duty.
The constitutionally established institutions such as election commission’s lack luster performance and back seat driving allowing the caretaker PM Narendra Modi to run a muck is a travesty in any democracy.
Narendra Modi has abused power in dismantling institutions ranging from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Reserve Bank of India ( RBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax and Revenue authority and the Election Commission to name a few in the government apparatus.
These institutions have been stripped of their autonomy to exercise independent, non-partisan and effective role in desperately required enforcements and activities against anyone in breach of jurisprudence and public trust beginning with caretaker Narendra Modi and affiliates in the past five years and until the present.
The caretaker government of PM Narendra Modi presumptuous actions in passing budget in direct violation of Parliamentary process and recently instructing his ad hoc dispensation to work on the first 100 days agenda assuming return to power is wreaking of arrogance and impropriety.
These episodes deficient in moral canon and constant defiance from the former Prime Minister Narendra Modi merits electorate attention and appropriate decision in rejecting Narendra Modi’s candidacy and political party along with the crew having exhausted the limits on electoral, democratic and constitutional transgressions.
Thank you.
