Definition of Power

What is Power?
Power is an ability to utilize one’s intelligence, common sense and rationale constructively rather than destructively in any given task and endeavor.
However, in contemporary politics, the definition of power is misinterpreted to suit individual desire and demeanor.
People’s mandate in a democracy is power that is increasingly misused to justify unjustifiable engagement. In politics, those in position of power and authority especially those elected as heads of the state or a large nation bear enormous responsibility to execute power within constitutional frame, congressional or parliamentary process and national as well as international laws to which none are immune and claim exception.
When leaderships as bearer of the highest office on land as President or Prime Minister are confronted with challenges related to economy, the most relevant matter to citizens from all walks of life and similarly in other situations involving investigation or congressional trial on any alleged issue possibly affecting the term in office more so nearing re-election, the leadership maturity would deal with these problems without violating public trust in dispensation of power and exercise due diligence in all actions and decisions made on the nation’s behalf. The leadership consciousness not to compromise integrity of the office they hold would be reflected in their measured and balanced approach leading to peaceful and amicable resolutions at the most mitigating potential conflagration.
Unfortunately, the current political trend target population within country or offshore to deflect public attention from reality.
In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah introduced citizenship amendment act (CAA) and national registry of citizens (NRC) tied to national population registry (NPR) aimed at specific demography of particular faith viz.muslims and large swath of population in the middle and lower income with the poorest at the bottom subject to citizenship qualification test to distract public focus from burgeoning economic crisis and Kashmir’s indefinite lockdown shutting internet access and communication is a political maneuver at electorate expense. The strategy to disenfranchise significant eligible voters representing economically poor majority and religious minority is carte blanche authority. The legislation and proposal ignore citizens’ constitutional rights with government response to civil liberty on non-violent peaceful dissent resulting in loss of innocent lives is regrettable.
Likewise, United States President Donald Trump having abandoned the nuclear deal with Iran, the pursuit to bring Iran on its knees via illegal economic sanctions and constant confrontations in overt and covert fashion while maintaining extraordinary terms with Saudi Arabia implicated in the gruesome murder and dismembering of Jamal Khashoggi, the author, columnist for Washington Post and Saudi Arabia’s inner circle ex-official besides Saudi nationals recruitment for September 11, 2001 terror attack apparently not a concern on national security front. Yet Saudi Arabia is not even a consideration for economic sanctions based on western policy criteria on human rights, endangering lives of citizens in the United States and western domain.
U.S foreign policy towards Iran in contrast to Saudi Arabia is a glaring discriminatory practice deemed convenient for economic interests and strategic dominance with any explanations in this regard only highlighting inherent flaws in international relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi feet on fire in the domestic front linked to economic slowdown and Kashmir isolation in India and United States President Donald Trump sensing cold feet and trepidation over the upcoming national election sparing the respective people and nations from undesirable indulgence and provocations would demonstrate respect to the citizens and the highest office they are elected to serve in general well being and progress.
Thank you.
