Corona Virus Opportunism
Padmini Arhant
The world confronted with the deadly virus consuming lives by the hour in some or other parts of the globe if not affecting hundreds in many regions, the last thing that could happen is some individuals in politics and the so-called celebrities in Indian film industry Bollywood, Kollywood etc. cashing in on publicity given their diminished stardom and successive failures of the films with or without pandemic is rather unfortunate.
The charlatans from the Indian film industry viz. Bollywood, Kollywood expressing their support to health care workers could actually do lot more than merely using twitter handle by digging in to their treasure cove in offshore tax havens and black money in overseas bank accounts confirmed with their names appearing in the Panama Gate listing the wealthy filthy hoardings abroad. The recovery of funds from these members in society considering their assets accumulations predominantly from tax evasions and money laundering could address critical needs alleviating the corona victims and vast Indian population economic plight in the hour of immense health and economic challenge.
Similarly, the business tycoons in India as the richest in Asia viz. the Ambani empire Chief Mukesh Ambani and other industrialists transforming from beneficiary to benefactor status given the preferences and privileges granted to them in enhancing super wealthy position by the political class could for a change turn the tide with economic support to millions of citizens forced into loss of income situation in India.
Anything other than these involvements by the rich, infamous and powerful in society unnecessarily place themselves in spotlight delineating them as a class ever desperate for opportunity in their dyeing hall of fame not to mention the disingenuous overreach using anyone and anything to their advantage.
You want to do something positive, do it in a original and sincere manner for altruistic not narcissistic reason.
The conflicting instructions from India’s PM Narendra Modi to Indian audience on the one hand making public announcement for people to observe self-curfew on March 22nd, Sunday while asking every Indian to come out and show their solidarity by clinging utensils, ringing bells and other musical instruments to health care workers at 5.00 p.m. on the same day of Citizens’ self-imposed curfew is something only PM Narendra Modi and the strategists behind this bizarre display jeopardizing this one day non-mandatory crowd restriction could explain.
Since any form of legitimate necessary constructive assessment of India’s economic, political, social and now health status is persona no n grata – unwelcome and dealt with disproportionate personal attacks and vitriolic innuendoes as well as insinuations suggesting cowardly
There will be more updates on politics and political leaderships in India and elsewhere exploiting corona virus to their maximum political agenda.
Thank you.
